Fable

Once upon a time
in a village

Fearing the cot
grandfather
lay down to die
father lost his sleep

His stare
day and night
killed the sleep of
my mother

Frustration
in her eyes
made my sister and
me sleepless

Owl became
my surname
humiliation
swaddled our days

Yesterday
rewriting the
story of
our sleeplessness

My sister left
to sleep in
an ancient
pond of a prince

Now
my eyes are drowsy
feeling
the depth of
her rewritten story
